Dr. Raj Saini
Dr. Raj M. Saini has dental degrees from India (with distinction) and the University of Toronto. He received his post-doctoral education in orthodontics from New York University (NYU) and has completed a two-year part-time program in TMJ and Facial Pain Management from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics (Board Certified) by examination.
In addition to his practice in Columbia, he has taught orthodontics at Howard University, the University of Maryland and NYU to post-doctoral students. Over the years, he has helped to educate over 350 orthodontic students from the United States and around the world. Currently, he is a Clinical Professor of Orthodontics (part-time) at NYU.
Dr. Saini has been involved with numerous civic and professional organizations, inlcluding Rotary International, Howard County General Hospital, Family Life Center, FIRN (Foreign Board Information and Referral Network) and has served as charter president of Howard County Dental Association.
Dr. Saini has received many awards, both professional and service-related, including the highest recognition given by The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International for his work in eradication of Polio around the world.
He is a dedicated family man, residing in Howard County since 1970. He and his wife, Indira, have raised three children and have four grandchildren. He has a passion about his profession. Following his example, more than 10 members of his immediate and extended family, including his son and one daughter, have followed him into dentistry. There are now three generations of dentists in the Saini family.
Dr. Tarun Saini
Dr. Tarun “Ty” Saini is a graduate of Glenelg Country School and currently serves on its Board of Trustees and the Alumni Board. He earned his bachelor’s degree in biology (thesis in marine biology) from Dickinson College where he played on the men’s soccer team. He continues to serve on the Alumni Council. After graduating from Dickinson College, Dr. Ty earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery, graduating with honors in orthodontics, from New York University. Twice, he was the recipient of the Dean’s Student Research Award and honored with the "Exceptional Interest in the Development of the Oro-facial Complex" award given by the American Association of Orthodontists. He was also awarded the Management of Patients with Disabilities award by the American Dental Association. He earned his Certificate in Orthodontics from NYU after completing a General Practice Residency at Staten Island University Hospital. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics by clinical examination. Each year, Dr. Ty surpasses the state requirements for continuing education. He holds licenses in Maryland and New York.
In addition to being an active member of the Howard County Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Dental Association and the Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontists, he has held or holds the following positions:
- Howard County Dental Association – past President, Secretary and Chairman of the Peer Review.
- Mid-Atlantic Society of Orthodontists – Serves on the Communications Committee.
Dr. Ty is very involved in his community. He is a member and chairperson for the Annual Remembrance Run 5K & 1 Mile Family Walk Fundraiser for the Columbia Rotary Club. He is an assistant coach for the Soccer Association of Columbia. In addition, he is on the Dean’s Faculty at the University of Maryland Dental School. He mentors dental students who are considering the specialty of orthodontics. He also volunteers his time to help orthodontic residents at several universities by giving lectures and hosting students in our office. Dr. Ty also mentors several Howard County High School students each year who are interested in the dental profession.
Since 1970, Raj M. Saini, DDS, now known as Saini Orthodontics, has treated over 10,000 patients, sometimes three generations from the same family. Besides Howard County, patients have traveled from many states in the United States as well as from Norway, Taiwan, Portugal and India. Records of a majority of our patients have been maintained since inception of the practice in 1970.
Saini Orthodontics is a family owned practice. Dr. Tarun "Ty" Saini was trained at NYU, partly under the supervision of his father, Dr. Raj Saini. He is fully familiar with his tried and tested treatment philosophies thereby assuring continuity of care in the years to come.
